Best Investment for a Healthier World

Health Workers Save Lives

We believe that the value of a highly skilled health workforce in delivering care that saves lives must be better reflected in global health policies, conversations, and funding priorities.

We want to put health workers front and center in global health conversations and ensure the importance of the health workforce is reflected in resolutions, declarations, and treaties. The WHO estimates there will be a shortfall of 10 million health workers by 2030, with the greatest shortfall in low-income countries and sub-Saharan Africa. We need more health workers. We must increase investments in training, resources, and gainful employment for the health workforce. We must invest in health workers to address the multitude of global health challenges we face, including adaptation to climate change, pandemic and emergency response, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), noncommunicable diseases, and the drive toward universal health coverage (UHC).

Existing health workers are also feeling the strain. Overworked, underpaid, under-resourced, and often unable to find decent employment in their home countries despite the shortages. This underscores the need for further global and domestic investment, as well as sustainable partnerships, to address these challenges.

Together we can amplify the “Health Workers Save Lives” message to underline the critical role they play in delivering care and campaign for more investment the health workforce.

We invite all interested organizations to get involved!

How to get involved

We want all interested organizations to join us in our “Health Workers Save Lives” campaign. The Frontline Health Workers Coalition (FHWC) and Seed Global Health will initially launch the yearlong campaign at UNGA to get people talking about health workers.

The campaign will predominately take place online, through social media, website, and newsletter content to all our audiences. We encourage you to use the platforms you are currently active on and engage with campaign content from other accounts in the coalition – especially the FHWC LinkedIn, and X (Twitter).

Sample content is available in the campaign playbook posting across your social media. Graphics [link] are available to download. We encourage you to adapt and edit this to fit your needs and create content in your organization’s tone of voice, personality, and style.

Timeline

The campaign will be initiated by Seed Global Health on Monday, September 23 at the 79th UN General Assembly. At launch, Seed Global Health will then invite other partners, including the Frontline Health Workers Coalition, to join this campaign.

Following these two moments, we invite all interested organization to get involved online – sharing content to celebrate health workers and demand better for the workforce – using the hashtag below.
